What skills and experience we're looking for
Are you an experienced primary school teacher who relishes a role where no 2 days are the same? Are you looking to join a small, friendly collaborative school with exceptional scope for career progression? Then we would like to hear from you. Please be advised that this opportunity is not suitable for ECT’S.
We are looking for:
- A skilled professional who has an engaging and energetic style of teaching and can differentiate across a mixed age range.
- Someone who has the drive and ambition to make sure all our children achieve their very best, and promotes academic excellence
- A teacher with a flair and passion for primary education who will embrace working and teaching in our school.
What the school offers its staff
We can offer you
- Delightful children who respect each other, have a thirst for learning new things and a staff culture which allows new members to thrive and develop.
- Opportunities to further develop your craft and a leadership team that will support your ideas and use school resources to help your career aspirations.
- A village school where staff tell us they ‘have tailored professional opportunities and are encouraged to play their part in our distributed leadership structure.’
- Children who love being here and in their words ‘Hackness is a happy school and we learn from each other’.
We have smaller than average classes, and highly supportive staff, governors, families and community. By having two distinct schools working as one, this has allowed our EYFS, KS1 and KS2 teachers to share work load, curriculum ideas and best practice.
Located at the foot of two wooded moorland valleys, the school offers quaint countryside charm. Hackness works closely with its partner school, Wykeham, as part of the Hackness & Wykeham Church of England School’s Federation. This collaborative supportive structure reflects our attitudes, we are a smaller school with a caring, supportive ethic.

Located at the foot of two wooded moorland valleys, Hackness Church of England Primary offers quaint countryside charm. We are a smaller school with a total of 58 pupils divided into three classes, aptly named Willow, Beech, and Sycamore: keeping in with our Forest School passion.
We believe all our children should have access to the outdoors as part of their development, fostering a relationship between the environment and learning. This is also a great opportunity to step out of the classroom for a change of scenery! You can see examples of our outdoor activities on our website, such as creating roman numerals from sticks.
Hackness works closely with its sister school, Wykeham, as part of the Hackness & Wykeham Church of England School’s Federation. This collaborative approach mirrors our values: as a smaller school with a strong focus on care and support, we benefit from working together. This partnership enables our EYFS, KS1, and KS2 teachers to share workloads, exchange curriculum ideas, and implement best practices. Our smaller-than-average class sizes, along with the dedicated support from staff, governors, families, and the community, further enhance the educational experience we provide.
