Thank you for your interest in St. Michael’s Junior Church School. Like the River Avon that flows with life through Twerton, we long to see a ‘River of Life’ transforming our school, church and local community. At St Michael’s we are proud to be part of the family of St Michael’s Church and of our Christian ethos and distinctiveness. Since 2018, we have been part of BWMAT and ‘Choosing life – Life in all its fullness ‘, underpins all that we do here at school. Through our weekly timetable all our children have access to a curriculum that helps them grow in Wisdom, Hope, Dignity. We believe that God will help each child to have fun and enjoy life to the full here at school, and that lives will be changed which will flow out into our community to help bring about hope and transformation.
We serve families from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds, the majority of pupils are of White British heritage with a high proportion of pupils identified as disadvantaged and therefore eligible for pupil premium funding, Twerton is an area of very significant deprivation in relation to national indicators and has a significantly higher than average percentage of pupils with special education needs and/or disabilities. The school is organised into 6 classes.
We promote self-regulation and emotional regulation as important skills for children to learn to be quipped for life now and in the future. We want to promote safe, stable, nurturing relationships and an environment where children live, learn, and play (in part to support the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences – ACEs) and to help all children reach their full potential and thrive. John 10:10 Live life, life in all it’s fullness. St Michael’s Church Junior School sits on a large site with extensive outside facilities including a fort, forest, climbing frame and our very own play bus, not forgetting our sandpit and boat! We have a fully functioning computer suite, devices for every child and a growing library. We use Talk4Writing, whole class reading and have protected story time every day. We use White Rose Maths, Times Tables Rockstars and Vocab Ninja. We deliver projects using Cornerstones.
