KS2 Teaching Assistant job summary

Are you committed to making a difference to children's lives? If so, join us on our journey, improving and developing our caring two-form entry school, with an outstanding EYFS. The Infant and Junior schools are located on two adjoining sites in the heart of the Ottershaw community. The schools have a capacity of 460 pupils, plus a 26 full-time, on-site nursery.

We would like to employ a Teaching Assistant for general classroom and break time support who is first and foremost the right person for Ottershaw Schools. You will also be required to work collaboratively with the class teacher to meet the needs of specific children with additional learning needs.

The Good Shepherd Trust is a multi-academy trust serving 23 schools within the Diocese of Guildford across Surrey and Hampshire. Our trust comprises both primary and secondary schools, schools affiliated to the Church of England and others who are not. Our purpose is to grow and maintain a strong network of schools within a highly supportive and sharing network: we know that schools are better when they work together sharing common values and goals. Opportunities for staff development are a key priority for us - as a member of support staff, as a teacher, as a head teacher or as a local committee member you will have access to wide and varied professional development.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment “to be better, together, to ensure an ambitious education for every child in every school every day”. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole. We always appoint on merit. We are always open to discussing flexible working options.

Please note that we reserve the right to interview on application should a suitable candidate apply and we have the right to withdraw this advert prior to the closing date. You are therefore strongly encouraged to apply for the role as soon as possible.

We can offer you:

  • Term time only working hours (31.65 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.25am to 3.15pm)
  • A salary grade of B6: FTE salary £22,599
  • An actual salary of B6: £16,842.70 for 31.65 hours per week, 38.6 weeks per year
  • The opportunity to work within a very supportive, friendly environment in this well run and respected school.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience of working with young children of all abilities
  • An understanding of the Primary Curriculum
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English (essential)
  • A level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Childcare/Early Years or Education (preferable)
  • A level 2 NVQ in Childcare/Early Years or Education (essential)

Visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact the school office to arrange your visit.

Commitment to safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of every child in the care of Ottershaw Christ Church C of E Infant and Junior Schools is our absolute priority. We expect all of our staff, pupils, parents, LGC members, Trust directors, visitors, contractors and third-party professionals to share this view. Welcome to our school website. We hope it provides you with a useful insight into how our school operates, what we are like and what sorts of things we get up to every term.

We are intensely proud of all we do, and know it is our combination of our nurturing, distinctively Christian ethos, strong teaching and academic success which ensures children feel safe, are happy and learn well here.

We believe that our pupils are the leaders of the future. We want them to be successful adults - gainfully employed in jobs they like, and living adult lives in successful, loving relationships. Because of this we make learning engaging and memorable for our children, with a constant focus on progress and achievement so that all children make good progress at our school and attain the academic levels which will open doors for them when they seek employment.

At the same time we actively promote and model strong values (and associated actions) and communication skills so that children learn how to secure and maintain friendships and positive relationships.

By placing an equal focus on academic achievement and how we treat one another, we believe we have just the right combination of ‘try hard, be nice’ which provides the very backbone of what our school provides for our children every day.

We are a Church of England School with very close links to our Parish Church of Christ Church, and receive visits and support every week from the Vicar (Sandra) and her team of Youth Workers. Our Christian ethos is obvious as you walk around our schools, and expect everyone to respect this. However we welcome families of all faiths, and those of none, to our school and are pleased to be able to serve all who live in our community.

Our website is only ‘one window’ to our schools. You are most welcome to visit and see for yourself the happy and positive ethos that Ottershaw Christ Church C of E Infant and Junior Schools have to offer.

We hope to see you soon.
