Purpose of the Post
- To be in charge of Key Stage 3 Science
- To devise, implement and monitor the teaching and delivery of KS3
Science combined with assisting the Head of Department
- To support the Head of Science in the drive to further raise standards at all levels within the Department, especially with regard to KS3.
- To be responsible for the ongoing review of the Key Stage 3 curriculum and assessments.
Key Tasks
- Support and encourage staff teaching Key Stage 3.
- Ensure that all staff are well informed of the requirements of the KS3 curriculum and schedule of work that they are delivering.
- Be well informed on and continue to monitor the delivery of the KS3 curriculum and assessments in Science.
- Report back on Key Stage 3 to the Head of Department on a regular basis and write exam analysis for KS3.
- Co-ordinate with classroom teachers to ensure that intervention is taking place for pupils who are not meeting their targets, including providing opportunities for external input where required.
- Support the Head of Department with the organization of open evenings.
- Use data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in the subject and establish a system for effective targeting and monitoring within the Key Stage – share information with HOD and Leaders of Learning.
- Undertake performance management where required.
- Attend Middle leaders’ meetings and Wednesday morning briefings.
