KS3 Teacher of Humanities job summary

Biddenham is an 11-19, oversubscribed school that, as we expand, is entering the next phase of its development. Due to our popularity, we need to grow and strengthen our already high performing staff team who, by 2025, will be working with 1600 students. We seek to appoint a well-qualified, professional and enthusiastic KS3 Teacher of Humanities to start in January or Easter 2025. There is some flexibility for part-time working.

To that end, we are looking to appoint an inspiring and committed teacher to join our popular History and Religious Studies departments. Religious Studies is a core GCSE subject at Biddenham as we believe it is important in a diverse multi-religious and multi-secular society to understand and respect one another and our differences. All students are required to study History at KS3 and at GCSE it is a popular choice within the EBacc. At KS3 we work within the project based learning themes shared across the curriculum, adapting them to the National Curriculum for History. All students in KS3 have one lesson a week of RS and one of History.

We have the potential to fully support Early Careers Teachers beginning their teaching career. Additionally, we have the flexibility to offer a more experienced teacher A-level teaching, if desired. There is scope for the right candidate to progress and assume additional responsibilities within the school or department.

If you were to be successful, you will be joining a school that is at the heart of the community it serves and has been making a transformative difference to the current and future lives of its students. You will join a wider dedicated team of teachers and staff at an exciting time of growth and expansion for the school. We are committed to providing access to technology for all by providing chromebooks to all of our students and staff and developing innovative blended learning approaches to teaching.

The successful candidate will be a great teacher and someone who has strong interpersonal skills and a passion for making a difference to young peoples’ lives. Teachers of other subjects will be considered, alongside a commitment to retrain to specialise in History or Religious Studies.

Above all else, the successful candidate should be enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals. The school sees the form tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same high standards and commitment as their subject role.

As a school we offer:

A diverse workplace,
Chromebooks for all classroom staff and students,
Exceptional professional development and career progression,
A supportive environment for ECTs allowing them to thrive,
Positive working relationships at all levels (with a healthy dose of humour!),
A supportive leadership team,
A genuine focus on staff wellbeing with an employee support resource,
Children of staff are prioritised in our admissions criteria,
Cycle to work scheme for all staff.

We are a teaching school hub for the Chiltern Training Group. We have established mentoring programmes for new and recently qualified teachers and we will consider applications from those with a related degree wishing to train, as well as ECTs. We support flexible working requests for those wishing to apply for part time hours. All teachers benefit from being part of a whole school collaborative teaching and learning approach and excellent opportunities for ongoing professional development.
