Our Opportunity
Do you enjoy the challenge of teaching children and young people who have special educational needs? Do you have passion, enthusiasm and expertise to teach children and young people to reach their potential?
We are looking for a wonderful teacher to provide maternity cover to our Key Stage 3 group. This class consists of seven pupils with diverse needs, including Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties. You will be supported by at least two teaching assistants to help you deliver engaging and effective lessons tailored to these students.
Curriculum
We offer semi-formal style of curriculum which is focused on supporting the individual learning journey of each pupil, celebrating their strengths. Pupils are grouped in a “stage not age” model.
Our core Key Stage 3 curriculum covers maths, English, science, computing, and humanities, plus performing arts and music to develop confidence, and food tech as part of supporting independence. Personal development is a major part of the curriculum at Welburn Hall.
Independent living skills are an essential part of personal development, ensuring pupils feel confident in their communities and enhance self-esteem.
This is an ideal opportunity for candidates looking to ‘test the waters’ of working in a special school.
You will have the enthusiasm and resilience to work with children and young people who have a wide variety of needs including:
- Autistic spectrum disorder
- Moderate and severe learning difficulties
- Speech, language and communication
Skills & Qualifications
- The ability to cater for the different learning styles of pupils with a range of learning difficulties
- You will be a very good classroom practitioner who consistently makes learning memorable, impacting on all students to make good progress
- Qualified Teacher Status
The ability to teach more than one subject and demonstrate a proven successful track record in a comparable SEND setting, will be advantageous.
Primary or Secondary trained candidates may apply; this includes those teachers that are specialists in their subject matter.
What the school offers its staff
- A happy and friendly special school, fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment in which to inspire and motivate our children.
- Significant levels of support from a staff team who is experienced, committed and passionate about our school.
- An opportunity to see the potential that exists here, with clear support given and an opportunity to make a difference that is life changing and rewarding.
