KS5 Teacher of Economics and Business job summary

TEACHER OF KS5 ECONOMICS AND APPLIED BUSINESS
Full Time or Part Time - Required to start September 2021
We welcome applications from experienced and newly qualified teachers

Your commitment to education, together with your passion for Economics and Business Studies, will enable you to inspire and motivate students at our incredibly successful and inspirational sixth form campus.  You will be part of an experienced and collaborative Social Sciences Team, who welcome forward thinking initiatives and offer advice, support and professional development opportunities in a friendly, positive and creative environment.

The Social Sciences Team is staffed by qualified specialist teachers who are passionate about
their teaching. At Thurston Sixth: Beyton Campus, A-Level Economics and L3 Applied Business are well subscribed and well-established courses with a proven track record for inspiring students to go on to study at universities and to develop successful careers. The department has its own A- Level classroom and resource library, as well first-class study facilities. The department has aimed to further enrich the business and economics curriculum experience by making local, national and international links with sustainable, forward thinking ethical businesses such as Tesla, Hotel Chocolat and Riverford organics.  We are seeking someone who would be keen to further develop these kinds of links by inviting outside speakers, organising visits and creating opportunities to enter business orientated national competitions.

Thurston Community College is a thriving mixed comprehensive school which boasts a strong

sense of community, a supportive, caring ethos and a positive, friendly atmosphere.  Thurston

Community College offers an exciting, dynamic learning environment, where students display a positive attitude to learning and make good progress.

“The behaviour of pupils is good. Pupils enjoy school and say that they feel well supported.  Most groups of pupils, including the most able and those who are disadvantaged, now make strong progress from their starting points.”  (Ofsted March 2018)

Staff work collaboratively, share a common sense of purpose and are relentless in the pursuit of outcomes of the highest quality for every student.

“Staff morale is high and most staff are positive about the leadership and management of the

school. This is because leaders have provided them with high-quality training and supported their development well at all levels.  Newly qualified and trainee teachers are passionate advocates of the school and its pupils. School leaders support them well and subject leaders develop their teaching skills through regular mentoring and effective support.”  (Ofsted March 2018)

Our sixth form students make progress in line with the top 10% of students nationally. The ethos and culture is calm, focussed and unified in its goal to create brilliant and curious learners ready to take on the world.

"Together, teachers and students have built a positive and tolerant learning community where, as one student said; “The mentality of accepting everyone for who they are is universal.”  (Ofsted March 2018)

Thurston Community College enjoys a rural location with free parking and convenient transport links to Cambridge, Ipswich and London.
