What skills and experience we're looking for

Main Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the day to day management of daily staff cover for teachers and other support staff as required by the Principal/SLT Line Manager, to ensure classes/lessons are covered when teachers are absent from school.
  • To supervise whole classes during the short-term and long-term absence of teachers.
  • To secure supply staff as/when required.
  • Duties and responsibilities: Cover Management

    Organise required cover for absent teaching staff on a daily basis, including arranging for high qualitycover of supply staff from agencies when required and ensuring a process for meeting and greeting supply teachers, ensuringthe school has their clearance details.

    Provide supply teachers with adequate support/training on the day, including the school’s behaviour management practice and making sure they are aware of the school’s safeguarding practice including how and to whom to report a concern.

    Organise cover staff effectively to minimise the impact of absence on teaching staff, thereby improving teaching and learning within the school.

    Ensure that all materials necessary to enable the smooth running of a cover lesson are provided each morning, including cover sheets, tutor registration sheets, cover work, seating plans, stationery and other instructions, as appropriate.

    Liaise with Subject Leaders and Heads of Year regarding student behaviour and cover work issues raised by supply teachers.

    Produce and arrange distribution of the daily cover sheet.

    To manage all room changes daily.

    Authorise timesheets for external teachers and approve the invoices.

    Deal with cover arrangements for last minute emergencies e.g. a member of staff being taken ill.

    Help to plan cover for larger scale events e.g. sports day, Year 6 Induction Day.

    To keep the SLT Link/Principal appraised at all times of any concerns regarding daily cover or supply personnel.
