We are looking for a caring and nurturing individual to support our pupils with their daily learning and development. Working and supported by our dedicated teaching staff, you will assist in creating a positive learning experience for all pupils, including those with special needs, either in a group or on an individual basis.
This rewarding role is varied and the responsibilities and duties include:
Motivating and encouraging pupils as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils’ needs
Assisting in weaker areas, e.g. speech and language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation etc
Ensuring the pupils are able to use equipment and materials provided
Helping to make appropriate resources to support the pupil
Using praise, commentary and assistance to encourage the pupil to concentrate and stay on task
Consistently and effectively implementing agreed behaviour management strategies
Liaising with class teacher, Inclusion Lead and other professionals about additional needs plans and contributing to the planning as appropriate
To succeed in this role you will have:
A good standard of education particularly in English and Mathematics, GCSE C and above or equivalent
Knowledge of the legal and organisational requirements for maintaining the health, safety and security of yourself and others in the learning environment
Knowledge of SEN Code of Practice
Knowledge of how children's social, emotional and behavioural difficulties can impact on their learning ability and how to support this
The ability to use language and other communication skills that pupils can understand and relate to
The ability to establish positive relationships with pupils and empathise with their needs
The ability to demonstrate active listening skills

Robsack Wood is a school for 4 to 11-year olds in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex. We promote personal achievement for all our pupils and provide creative learning opportunities so that every child succeeds. Our pupils enjoy an exceptional learning environment including outdoor learning in our Forest School, a large grassed playing field, adjacent woodlands, garden areas and animal areas with chickens and ducks.
