Lead Practitioner - Chemistry job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Practitioner to be based across 2 successful schools within the Midlands United Learning cluster, initially working across two academies: Northampton Academy and Kettering Buccleuch Academy. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher of Science with a Chemistry specialism and have a strong desire to assist other teachers in the classroom. They will be at the forefront of driving forward Science within two, already successful, departments and schools and split their time between both sites.
This post is significant, supporting and developing teaching in Science and elsewhere within both Academies. It is a perfect step for someone looking for promotion but wishing to take a different route than Head of Department. The responsibility and remuneration are at Head of Department levels and the next step from this post is Assistant Principal. The remuneration reflects the level of responsibility. We seek to appoint an ambitious person who wishes to be an Assistant Principal within 3-5 years.
Northampton Academy is an oversubscribed 11-18 Academy of 1550 students and is transformational for the young people of our community. It was judged 'Good' in all areas in February 2016. Northampton Academy has a thriving academic Sixth Form and offer all Science’s at A-level. The Sixth Form is housed in a new multi-million pound mezzanine suite of rooms. One of the first schools in the county to receive the Character Kitemark, the school looks to develop both students and staff Character at the Academy.
Kettering Buccleuch Academy has seen many exciting changes in its ten-year history. It is an all-through Academy catering for students aged 4-18, moving into a new, purpose-built building in January 2013. Under recent new leadership, the Academy continues to go from strength to strength, with happy and motivated staff, a supportive culture and plenty of opportunities for personal growth with excellent staff CPD offer. As well as being able to offer a host of Group-wide benefits, KBA offers staff subsidised meals and a free to use on-site gym.
Both Academies are part of the large United Learning group of schools which brings significant advantages to staff at a senior level seeking promotion and eventual headship. Opportunities exist within the United Learning Group to network and work with other Academies. There is a culture of collaboration and talent-spotting; good leaders often find themselves progressing to headship without leaving the group.
Wherever your location, this is an ideal post as we shall offer the successful candidate a comprehensive induction and support package together with a well-developed and highly personalised CPD programme. You may also be eligible for a relocation assistance.
