Lead practitioner for law job summary
We are looking to recruit an outstanding teacher to work as a lead practitioner for law to work across our trust. This role is for one day a week, so would suit someone already working part time, or who can negotiate with their employer to reduce their time by a day. It will need to be a full day as travel will be required. We can be flexible as to which day it is.
The support you offer our leaders and teachers will be vital in ensuring that all our schools achieve the same successes. Joining a school improvement team led by a national director, you will use your passion, subject knowledge, and expertise in law to drive forward the quality of the curriculum and teaching and learning. You will conduct some of the role online, but you will need to travel to academies further afield to coach and lead others. This in an exciting role that requires flexibility, a team spirit, and a willingness to learn, and it will suit individuals who want to take a step-up and work at a more strategic level in law, across a range of schools. Some of our schools offer law, including in our Alternative Provision schools. Most of our sixth forms offer the subject at KS5, so you must be confident in offering expertise at this level.
Our expectations are high as is the value we attach to these subjects. We are aiming to ensure that all our schools have a fantastic offer in law so that students can progress onto further study, university or employment of their choice.
The successful candidate will:
be an excellent teacher with a proven track record of securing sustained excellent outcomes
have up-to-date knowledge of subject curricula and assessment requirements
be proficient in teaching law to Level 3
have proven experience of identifying and implementing effective strategies for improving attainment in schools or colleges at KS4 and KS5.
have a highly effective style that is both consultative and influential
be able to demonstrate resilience, motivation, and commitment to driving up standards of achievement
be able to work across a group of schools and show significant impact in developing capacity and improving outcomes for young people
In return, we offer great career prospects in a supportive environment, commitment to your continued professional development, pension, health cash plan and other generous staff discounts.
Applying for the job
Please note as part of the shortlisting process you are required to submit what you consider to be an ambitious law curriculum at KS5, based on pupils having four lessons a week over two years. You can base this on any specification you like, but please note the specification should not be the entirety of the curriculum. There is no set format for how you present this, but ideally it will be clear to the person shortlisting the content that is to be covered. Please ensure that any documents you submit is either in a Word or PDF format.
To apply, please submit your completed application form, the accompanying task and supporting statement by 12pm on 10th June 2022 to recruitment@ormistonacademies.co.uk.
We have included the most frequently asked questions in the description below, but if you have any additional queries, please email your specific questions to the Senior Lead Practitioner for Post 16, Kathryn Brindley-Edwards @ Kathryn.Brindley.Edwards@ormistonacademies.co.uk
