What the school offers its staff
Beacon Academy opened on 1 September 2017 as part of the Wellspring Academy Trust. We are an exciting, expanding, inclusive and dynamic secondary academy which places the student at the heart of our provision. Our distinctive ethos of ‘Human Scale Education’ sets us apart from other schools. At Beacon Academy your child will be known as an individual, supported and provided with opportunities to achieve academically and to develop as a young person.
Within our distinctive ethos we provide your child with opportunities, interventions and watch them thrive. We will continue to build upon solid foundations as an academy rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED. Regional champions in sports, poetry, photography and performing arts are just some examples of how your child will develop those crucial ‘soft skills’ needed to flourish in an ever changing world.
We have outstanding facilities in engineering. As a pioneering member of WISE, we champion girl’s opportunity and achievement within the STEM subjects. All students study engineering from year 7 and immediately develop skills such as problem solving, creative thinking, teamwork and collaboration whilst learning mathematical and scientific concepts.
Parents are choosing Beacon Academy with the knowledge that not only is their child known as an individual and supported but academic progress is also at the heart of our provision.
Ultimately our students will leave as fully rounded young people, who in addition to their qualifications and references can present portfolios evidencing wider skills. This can range from building a rocket car to being an award winning member of a stage crew. Beacon Academy students, like the school itself, will have a Unique Selling point which makes them stand out from the crowd.
Commitment to safeguarding
The Academy recognises that it has a statutory and moral duty towards safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and, if appropriate, vulnerable adults who participate in any Trust activities and expects all staff to share this commitment.
