Remuneration: Lead Practitioner Pay Scale LP1–LP5 (£47,417 to £52,330)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time (37 hrs per week, term-time only)
Start Date: As soon as possible or Easter 2025
About the Role:
Edgar Wood Academy is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Practitioner of Science to join our dynamic team. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in raising standards of student attainment and teaching quality within the Science Department. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and be passionate about supporting students to achieve their fullest potential.
Key Focus:
- Support the Subject Leader in maximising students’ academic development by taking responsibility for interventions.
- Drive high standards of teaching and learning across the department through leadership, strategic planning, and data analysis.
Primary Purpose:
- Help students realise their academic potential through an unrelenting focus on quality teaching and student support.
- Foster a "can-do" culture that motivates and inspires students to aim high and achieve their goals.
- Embrace flexibility and contribute to the school’s growth and overall development.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Accountability to the Headteacher
- Demonstrate effective leadership within the subject area.
- Keep the Headteacher informed of all issues concerning the Science Department via the line manager.
B. Leadership and Management of Staff
- Support the Head of Department (HOD) and Second in Department in developing subject knowledge.
- Assist in identifying and addressing CPD needs within the department.
- Support with interpreting data and planning strategic interventions for student progress.
C. Leadership of Learning and Teaching
- Enhance and contribute to the development of formative and summative assessments.
- Support the moderation and standardisation of assessments.
- Assist in organising interventions and coordinating department trips and visits.
- Promote outstanding practice and ensure the department is up to date with national teaching developments.
D. Welfare of Students
- Foster high expectations and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom culture.
- Collaborate with the Pastoral Team to support student well-being and remove barriers to learning.
E. Monitoring, Assessment, and Reporting
- Be accountable for tracking and improving student progress and achievement.
- Ensure assessment and feedback align with school policies and support student development.
- Provide regular updates on student progress through reports and parent meetings.
F. Operational/Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with the Subject Leader to support curriculum development and the transition from KS2 to KS3.
- Plan and participate in school events, including Open Evenings and extracurricular activities.
