What skills and experience we're looking for

There is much to do, but the successful applicant will be supported by a Trust wide subject network and the opportunity to visit other schools to witness best practice and use that experience to develop others at Parkside School. The role is an exciting one, as it will allow you to work with a team of Lead Practitioners in school creating packages to help bring about excellent practice in the classroom.

What the school offers its staff

At Parkside we are keen to provide development opportunities which allow excellent teachers to remain in the classroom, whilst providing them with progression opportunities. As a result, we have 2 levels of Lead Practitioner at Parkside School - whole school lead practitioners and subject lead practitioners. This is a role for a Science subject lead practitioner. You will work mainly within the Science Faculty but will develop whole school experience by leading areas of whole school improvement linked to Science subject knowledge. In due course, this could therefore provide progression opportunities to work with Whole School Lead Practitioners who lead teaching and learning across the school and on areas such as early career teacher development.

Key aspects for the role in the first 12 months include:

  • Working with the HOF to develop quality first teaching in the faculty
  • To support staff in more creative, engaging teaching
  • To support development of the science curriculum
  • To support student engagement in developing a love for science

Further details about the role

We encourage any applicant to come and visit the school or to book an informal phone conversation about this role with the Head teacher, Katharine Needham. Please contact Louise Bean (Head's PA) on Louise.Bean@parksideschool.net to arrange a suitable time.

If you are as excited by this challenge as we are and you think this might be the role for you, please complete an application form, having taken note of the attachments and e-mail it to recruitment@parksideschool.net no later than 12pm on 27 September 2023.

Please note, we do not accept CV's.

Interviews for successfully shortlisted candidates will be undertaken w/c 2 October 2023.

The School has adopted the principles of Safer Recruitment and will safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to do the same. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal records check via the Disclosure and Barring Service. Parkside School is an Equal Opportunities Employer

Parkside School was judged as a GOOD school by OFSTED in October 2016 and was also shortlisted for the following awards:

• The Telegraph & Argus Education Awards – in the category of School Improvement (Highly commended)
• For the last two years - Sky Sports Awards for Education (Top 10 schools nationally)

Parkside is a rapidly improving school situated in a rural situation, close to Haworth, West Yorkshire, with good transport links to both Bradford and Leeds. It is a popular and oversubscribed 11 to 18 co-educational school with around 1100 students on role. Due to the improvements instigated over the last few years and also to address the increased need for provision in the community, from September 2017, the school engaged in an expansion programme. This will take the school to 210 students on entry, up from the previous 180 and will increase the school in size to approximately 1275 (including sixth form).
