What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent.
  • Ability to be adaptable in a fast-paced extremely environment.
  • Successful experience of delivering a differentiated PE lessons to students with a wide range of needs.
  • Have the ability to identify and de-escalate potential problems before they escalate and be able to develop strategies to promote the positive behaviour of pupils.
  • Successful experience of managing teaching assistants to improve learning.
  • Teaching/coaching experience and qualifications in two or more sports.
  • Ability to adapt and extend learning activities in response to pupils’ achievement and plan ways to further enhance it, both lessons on and offsite.
  • Teach engaging and motivating lessons informed by well-grounded expectations of learners and designed to promote pupils’ lifelong PE development.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 3 Qualification in Lowland Expedition Leadership or equivalent.

  • Evidence of the ability to promote a positive ethos and pride in the College together with high standards of education, care and behaviour.

  • Evidence of a sound knowledge of the current PE curriculum and a willingness to engage in curriculum development.

We are looking for a Lead Teacher who is:

  • To play the leading role in the leadership and management of PE and OAA across the college
  • Take the lead strategic role in PE/OAA improvement and a leading role in the development of the skills and impact of all staff
  • Lead and manage the PE team and all those who support PE learning
  • Ensure that all appropriate health, safety and safeguarding protocols are followed for PE learning
  • Work closely with colleagues of the Extended Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team
  • Able to deliver outstanding PE lessons to a range of learning needs and abilities
  • Engage and motivate students and staff across a range of sports disciplines
  • Able to deliver outdoor education and Duke of Edinburgh Award programs including residentials and expeditions
  • Able to plan, organise and lead team building activities for students
  • Committed to achieving the best for each student through a personalised learning framework
  • Dynamic, organised, creative and emotionally intelligent
  • Looking to work in a college with a positive and inclusive ethos

We welcome applications from teachers with excellent special or mainstream experience in primary or secondary sector. A programme of support and training will be offered to develop your understanding and skills in special educational needs within a supportive environment.

Particular Responsibilities:

1. To ensure the effective communication of Oak Grove's Philosophy, Aims and Policies to staff, students and outside agencies.

2. To teach, according to their special educational needs, students assigned in the class group. This will include planning and developing a differentiated curriculum for the assigned age-group and working to support student’s individual objectives.

3. Ensure a well-structured PE programme is in place for each group within the school, enhancing physical skills while promoting inclusivity and catering to the diverse needs of all students. This includes activities such as invasion games, gymnastics, trampolining, swimming, and more.

4. To have high expectations of young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.

5. To supervise the work of Teaching Assistants relevant to the allocated class or group.

6. To maintain care, control and discipline in accordance with the rules and systems of the college.

7. Deliver outdoor education and Duke of Edinburgh Award programs including residentials and expeditions.

8. Commit to achieve the best for each student through a personalised learning framework.

9. Plan, organise and lead team building activities for students.

10. To contribute to meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the work of the college as a whole.

11. To promote equal opportunities within the college and to seek to ensure the implementation of the equal opportunities policy, which may include participation in outreach links with other schools in accordance with the college's policy on inclusion.

12. To promote and foster good relationships and effective liaison with parents/carers to support student progress.

14. To deliver exciting and innovative learning and undertake assessment using a broad range of methods, taking full responsibility for the success of own learners, developing a personalised and holistic learning approach in all lessons.
