About the area

If you are local, you might have heard of Oldham, but if not, you may not know much about the town. Oldham is the gateway to Manchester City Centre, one of the most vibrant cities in the country, well known for its nightlife, entertainment and shopping. You can travel from Manchester to Oldham by train, tram, bus or car in well under 30 minutes. As well as the bright lights of Manchester, the local area is well known for its outstanding natural beauty. As well as being the gateway to Manchester, we’re also the gateway to the Pennines. Saddleworth Moor, Tandle Hill country park and Daisy Nook are on our door step. Accommodation is also readily available at some very competitive prices. Manchester City Centre has an abundance of high-quality apartments, all a stone’s throw from the amazing night life.

About the school

The Hathershaw College is a very successful and oversubscribed 11-16 Academy within the Pinnacle Learning Trust, which consists of ourselves, Oldham Sixth Form College, Werneth Primary School, Broadfield Primary School and Alexandra Park Junior School.

You will see from our Ofsted report that we have retained our good status. I would advise you to read the excellent report before applying. Key highlights from this include: “Pupils behave sensibly around the school and in lessons. They are respectful to other pupils, staff and visitors.” “Staff value the steps that leaders have taken to ease their workload and support their well-being.” Senior leaders have taken radical steps to manage the workload and well-being of colleagues by reducing unnecessary burdens and bureaucracy. These actions were rated highly in the most recent staff survey, which takes place on annual basis.

We have an excellent reputation for professional development and providing opportunities for people to progress their career.

Managing the well-being and workload of staff is something taken extremely seriously by the Principal, having taken steps to reduce unnecessary burdens and bureaucracy. Staff describe Hathershaw as “a great place to work”. We really want you to have a life outside of the classroom so that you can enjoy everything the area has to offer.

About the faculty

All students at both key stages study a design and technology related subject as part of our commitment to STEM. As a result, there are a large team of teachers, classrooms and specialist facilities. Until you see the setup of the faculty, you won’t believe how well equipped and forward thinking it is. Student voice is extremely positive about the subject and examination results are some of the best in the school. The successful candidate will have their own classroom and support from a senior technician. The faculty is extremely well led by a very experienced curriculum leader who is also a specialist leader in education, supporting other schools where required.

About the role

This is a great opportunity to begin your leadership career, leading key stage 3 and building those crucial foundations for key stage 4 success. You will work under the direction of the curriculum leader, but will have the opportunity to further develop our curriculum and contribute directly to decision making. As we are part of a trust with its own research school, we have access to extensive professional development opportunities for you if you wish.

If you want to know more about the role, arrange a visit or simply speak to someone, please contact Vicki Sainsbury, PA to the Principal, on vs@hathershaw.org.uk

We are happy for you to contact us to discuss anything or answer questions to find out more about our exciting department.

About our trust

We celebrate students’ uniqueness and support our young people to flourish and become responsible, successful citizens who contribute positively to their communities. Our Trust invests in each member of staff, offering them professional development opportunities, including designation as Evidence Leads in Education for the Research School; delivery of school-to-school support; CPD facilitation and support for trainee teachers. Staff have access to opportunities to develop their teaching practice, such as training on metacognition, virtual classroom coaching and retrieval practice. As a Trust, we celebrate diversity by encouraging an understanding of our communities, faiths and cultures.
