Monday – Friday, 8.15am to 3.15pm (Term-time only)

Salary Grade F - £31,067 - £35,235 pro rata - (actual salary £23,072 - £26,167)

Newton Leys Primary School & Nursery opened in September 2016, with the vision for a happy, inclusive and welcoming school, within the developing Newton Leys community.

Inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at Newton Leys Primary and we are looking for an enthusiastic, caring individual who shares our passion for ensuring every child has access to an education that is right for them.

We are looking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced learning mentor to work across the school. The ideal candidate will be a passionate and highly motivated professional, dedicated to helping our children to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting directly to the Inclusion Manager
  • Working closely in a team with the SENDCo and Welfare Officer to respond to and support the behaviour and emotional wellbeing of pupils across the school
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis to manage behaviour and emotions
  • Building trust and positive relationships with pupils
  • Supporting pupils with managing emotions and reactions in a classroom environment
  • Improving pupils’ confidence and self-esteem
  • Improving pupils’ engagement in lessons
  • Working closely with the class teachers and senior leaders to implement behaviour strategies
  • Assisting in delivering targeted interventions
  • Monitoring and recording progress and behavioural developments
  • Working with parents and carers to build positive relationships between home and school

Candidates' skills include:

  • Be patient, empathetic and approachable
  • Be passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning
  • Be comfortable working with children with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively
  • Able to remain calm and resilient when placed in situations of stress or conflict
  • Motivated and enthusiastic with a professional approach to work
  • Have undertaken or be willing to undertake Team Teach Level One and Two training
  • Have a secure knowledge and understanding of safeguarding in schools
