Learning Mentor job summary

We are seeking to appoint a learning mentor to work in a dynamic and forward thinking primary school.
As a learning mentor you will be an excellent communicator who can confidently and professionally liaise with pupils, their parents, carers, staff and external agencies. You will possess sound organisational skills and have the ability to prioritise tasks accordingly. You will have excellent IT skills and be a team player able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the school. Previous experience of working on SIMs is desirable but not essential.

- Monitoring daily attendance and alongside the senior learning mentor, implement strategies to help pupils maintain a regular school attendance record - including home visits
- To carry out pastoral interventions within school at the direction of the SLM/Principal
- To assist the SLM to produce reports for a variety of meetings including CIN/MAST/TAF meetings and others.
- to identify those children who would benefit most from a learning mentor and working with others, draw up and implement an action plan for each child who needs particular support (except where the pupil is already subject to an individually tailored plan).
With teaching and pastoral staff to participate in the comprehensive assessment of all children entering or returning to school and identify those who need extra help to overcome barriers to learning inside and outside school.
- to develop 1-1 mentoring relationships with children needing particular support where necessary aimed at achieving the goals defined in the action plan
- to maximise regular contact with families/carers of children in need of extra support, to keep them informed of the child's needs and progress, and to secure positive family support and involvement
- other responsibilities pertaining to this role.
