It is a very exciting time to join Beacon Academy, which in September moves into a brand new multi-million pound building. The building is handed over to the Academy in the summer and staff will have the opportunity to work in that new building with the most up to date facilities from September.

The academy is part of Wellspring Academy Trust, which was recently awarded the title of ‘Multi Academy Trust of the year.’ The Trust and school have a reputation for having high expectations. The values of the Trust are matched by the school. ‘We make a difference.’ If you share this philosophy, this may be the job for you. Details of Wellspring Academy Trust can be found at: https://wellspringacademytrust.co.uk/

Your Role and Our Commitment to You

The academy offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic person to join our team at Beacon Academy as a Learning Resource Centre Manager (Librarian). We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative, and committed individual with high expectations of students and themselves. The successful candidate will be capable of inspiring students of all abilities through their passion for reading and learning.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our vibrant and dynamic Learning Resource Centre, ensuring it is an open access learning area for all students. This will involve providing a professional learning resource and information support service, overseeing the organisation and management of the Library, and managing library stock, orders, and budget. You will also play a key role in promoting literacy, study, information, and retrieval skills amongst all students. The role includes managing events such as author visits and speakers to promote literacy, developing a wellbeing area within the Library, and working with the SENDCO to support SEND students. You will also be responsible for supporting library lessons and assisting users in locating information and resources.

You will work closely with Senior Leaders and relevant staff as part of a specialist team, and be well supported. Wellspring Academy Trust and Beacon Academy believe in investing in our staff. We have a strong CPD offer, and all new staff will receive a supportive induction programme. If you are driven to ensure the highest possible standards of learning support and student engagement, then we warmly invite you to apply and join our convivial team.

We are a small school and so it is possible to develop strong relationships. To support this, we are introducing a new coaching group approach for staff and students in September. Our students are enthusiastic and enjoy interactive lessons from passionate staff; they respond well to strong, trusting relationships with staff. Having recently appointed new leaders at the Academy, Beacon Academy has a renewed focus on student development, both academically and in personal growth. We are about to embark on new and innovative strategies in school, so this would be an exciting time to join the team.

Ready to Apply?

We encourage any applicant to visit the school or book an informal phone conversation with a member of the leadership team. Please feel free to contact the academy via email at hr@beaconacademy.co.uk to arrange a suitable time. If you're as excited by this challenge as we are and believe this might be the role for you, please review all attached documents and submit your application by Wednesday 16th July. Interviews for successfully shortlisted candidates will be held soon after this date.

Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities

Wellspring Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils. All posts are offered subject to enhanced DBS checks. References will be requested and an online search carried out for shortlisted candidates, prior to attendance at interview. Further pre-employment checks, including prohibition from teaching, childcare disqualification and section 128 checks, if deemed relevant for the role, will be completed for the successful candidate upon acceptance of the post.

We are committed to equal opportunities and to promoting diversity. We want our people to reflect the diversity of our communities, and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds, especially from under-represented groups, including those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.

Beacon Academy opened on 1 September 2017 as part of the Wellspring Academy Trust. We are an exciting, expanding, inclusive and dynamic secondary academy which places the student at the heart of our provision.

Our distinctive ethos of ‘Human Scale Education’ sets us apart from other schools. At Beacon Academy your child will be known as an individual, supported and provided with opportunities to achieve academically and to develop as a young person.

Within our distinctive ethos we provide your child with opportunities, interventions and watch them thrive. We will continue to build upon solid foundations as an academy rated ‘Good’ by OFSTED. Regional champions in sports, poetry, photography and performing arts are just some examples of how your child will develop those crucial ‘soft skills’ needed to flourish in an ever changing world.

Parents are choosing Beacon Academy with the knowledge that not only is their child known as an individual and supported but academic progress is also at the heart of our provision.

Ultimately our students will leave as fully rounded young people, who in addition to their qualifications and references can present portfolios evidencing wider skills. This can range from building a rocket car to being an award winning member of a stage crew. Beacon Academy students, like the school itself, will have a Unique Selling point which makes them stand out from the crowd.
