Learning Support Assistant job summary

Post Held: Learning Support Assistant
Responsible to: SENCO and Headmaster
Liaises with: SENCO and Class teachers

Main purpose of job:

The Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role is to provide support to the pupils with various needs. The LSA will ensure that pupils are integrated to the whole school environment and making progress. Duties will include running specific interventions and activities to assist pupils’ individual learning and social needs. The LSA will be responsible for implementing the learning targets in liaison with the class teacher and SENCO.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide learning support in class or in withdrawal situations, either 1:1 or small groups.
To support the emotional needs of students.
To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the pupils and seek advice from SENCO, class teachers and outside agencies as required.
To work as part of the team to ensure that the well-being and personal development of the pupils enhance their learning opportunities and life skills.
To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g. worksheets, visual prompt cards etc.
To make or modify differentiated resources as suggested and advised by the SENCO and class teachers
To provide positive reinforcements, praise and rewards.
To facilitate inclusion in small group activities with peers and support interaction between them.
To attend in service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.
To provide regular feedback to the class teacher, SENCO and relevant outside agencies about the pupil’s difficulties and progress.
To foster links between pupils, parents & carer and school.
To understand and apply the school policies on learning and behaviour and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs.
To set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
To provide the necessary pastoral care to enable students to feel secure and happy.
To carry out duties as directed by the SENCO or Head Master,
