What skills and experience we're looking for

Our successful SEND team provide opportunities for students with wide ranging difficulties to make excellent progress and we encourage all children to succeed. Our Learning Support Assistants have a variety of skills and we endeavour to make sure that our staff are given high quality professional development to enable them to progress either within our school or beyond. Many of our LSAs have gone on to teach or to take up further positions of responsibility within our school.

Opportunities are given in school to develop a wider range of inclusion skills which will enhance career progression, for many this has led to a promotion of position and in some cases enrolment onto Teaching courses. We are a team that recognises the worth of the individual, and as such strive to support all SEND students to allow them to be successful in every way and achieve their goals and aspirations. We would welcome applications from enthusiastic candidates who believe in a strong team ethic, have a passion for SEND and Inclusion, can set high expectations for themselves and others, are flexible and adaptable and can demonstrate a resilience in ensuring every individual is recognised for their potential.

We encourage applications both from those wishing to begin a career working in schools and those with experience who wish to further develop their skills and expertise

Mount St Mary’s is a successful and oversubscribed inner city school located in the very heart of the city. Drawing from three of the four compass points the school flourishes in an atmosphere of engagement and aspiration drawing hugely upon the experiences of our incredibly diverse community.

In April 2019 the school underwent a Section 48 Inspection gaining an overall judgement of Good with Outstanding. The report comments "Students are polite, confident and respectful in the way they treat each other and interact with staff and visitors. They are .. highly articulate and proud of their school and their personal achievements. Behaviour in school is excellent and a strength of the school as it reflects its Catholic character."

Our most recent Section 5 Ofsted Inspection found us to be a highly inclusive school where students recognise the positive impact it has on their lives. A school where the curriculum is expertly delivered and students can describe their learning with clarity. Students behave impeccably, consequently lessons are calm and purposeful and rates of attendance are consistently high. Students are exceptionally well prepared for life beyond school and flourish in a climate where exemplary leadership has an unwavering focus on ensuring all students succeed.
With the return to national progress comparatives in 2022, Mount St Mary’s topped both local and regional tables for P8. This success was replicated in 2023, and again in 2024, where we continue to buck the national trends.

All students seek to access extracurricular activities beyond the school day, be that of a sporting nature, academic, performing arts or public speaking. This is an area we value highly and continue to see growth in.
