Learning Support Assistant job summary

We are looking for a excellent Learning Support Assistant to join our team. You will be expected to support the learning in classrooms, teach small groups and be fully committed to the welfare and progress of our learners.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Work with individuals and/or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of the class teacher and provide feedback to the teacher.

Lead structured intervention programmes to support pupil progress, under the direction of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator.

Support pupils to understand instructions, support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils.

Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task.

Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate.

Prepare and clear the learning environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils’ work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment

Teachings Assistants in this role may also undertake some or all of the following:

Record basic pupil data

Assist with break-time supervision including facilitating games and activities

Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits

Support pupils in using basic ICT

Invigilate tests

Knowledge, Experience and Training

Experience of working with or caring for children of the relevant age

Good numeracy and literacy skills

Basic knowledge of first-aid

Ability to use modern technology

Ability to work in a team

Be aware of and support difference and ensure that pupils have equality of access to opportunities to learn and develop

Training

Engage in professional development resulting from Performance Management.

Access to in-house and externally provided training.

Health & Safety

Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection; and report all concerns to an appropriate person.
