What skills and experience we're looking for

About the SEND Department

We are a team that has an in-depth knowledge of each student with complex needs at Trinity. These are students who are vulnerable, we are their voice and support to really make a difference in each of their lives and help each and everyone reach their God given potential. Being a part of this team allows you to leave an everlasting impression on these young people in need.

The Trinity SEND team is made up of a SENDCo, Assistant SENDCo, two part time administrative staff and a team of LSAs (currently at 9 LSA), 5 of whom are our lead LSAs who line manage the other LSAs. An LSA is responsible for supporting and extending SEN Pupils’ learning, meeting pupils’ wider well-being needs, providing pastoral support and supporting the wider work of the school. The SENDCo will distribute specific day to day work via our LSA timetable sent out each morning to ensure we are covering the needs of our students which could include but is not limited to supporting the SEN of pupils, running interventions or overseeing our Garden room (a space for SEN students who are not in mainstream lessons.)

SEND at Trinity is very much a whole school approach and the work we do on the day to day helps further heighten our SEND support at our school and further supports all staff to create an ever growing inclusive environment for all students regardless of need.

About You

The successful candidate will be required to assist subject teachers to meet students’ needs by working with individuals or groups of students on a planned basis, pass on information about the students gathered in other contexts to the subject teacher and work with students who have SEN, disabilities and/or health needs. LSA’s may be required to provide personal care so candidates must be confident and comfortable with this responsibility.

You will act as an extension of the School’s pastoral system by acting as a listening ear and confidante for students and provide general support for students who are re-integrating into school following prolonged absence /change of school /exclusion.

Previous experience as a teaching assistant is preferred. A positive attitude and calm manner with the ability to communicate well with others and demonstrate good organisational skills is essential.

Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children, the needs of children and child development and the ways in which children learn is essential.

Trinity is a growing, non-denominational Christian free school based in Sevenoaks, Kent. We are a single Academy Trust which operates under the sponsorship of 29 local churches in the Sevenoaks area. Trinity was founded in 2013 by a committed group of local people, many of whom are governors of the school. We are a 11-18, non-selective, mixed school and we attract many pupils who reach the standard to pass the 11 Plus. Half the intake have a faith reference. The sixth form was established in September 2018 and will grow to 240 students.

We moved into our brand new, state-of-the-art building in September 2016. We originally opened as a four-form entry school but are in the process of applying to become a six-form entry due to demand for places in the local area. A building expansion programme to accommodate more students has already started. At full capacity the school will eventually accommodate 1140 students.

Parents, staff and students describe the school as a truly special place to work, teach and learn. The culture is supportive, challenging and every member of the Trinity team has high standards and expectations and strives for excellence in every aspect of school life. Our vision and values permeate everything we do and this is demonstrated by our well-behaved students right through to our flourishing co-curricular programme. High quality teaching, coupled with outstanding pastoral care, ensures that our students have every opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Teachers are well supported and developed through our CPD programme. Our new, state-of-the art building has excellent, spacious facilities, well-resourced classrooms, designated staff work rooms and ample on-site staff parking.

Trinity Values
As a Christian school, we promote ‘the Trinity Way’ in all we do: Truth, Excellence, Love, Leadership and Service. We believe that in doing so, students are well-placed to grow into confident, outward focused individuals who live rewarding and purposeful lives. We hold unswervingly to a belief that every Trinity student should receive an ‘education for life in all its fullness’.
