Learning Support Assistant job summary

The role is to provide support for children who require additional help. Working in the classroom and around school to support children to make academic, social, emotional and behavioural progress.

The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting all children, whatever their need, be flexible and a team player.


The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist the class teachers and the team in engaging children with the curriculum
  • Support children who are experiencing difficulties with their emotions, behaviour, social interactions or other aspects of school or home life
  • Establish supportive, caring, secure and trusting relationships with children
  • Assist in creating, developing and producing resources for in and out of the classroom
  • Under the guidance of class teacher/SENDCO, to communicate and collaborate with parents of children

FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED:

  • Level 1 Qualification Teaching Assistant/ Practitioner (Highly Desirable)
  • School based references from the last 2 years (Desirable)
  • A DBS on the update service or happy to complete a new one

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above.
  • previous childcare experience.
  • a proven ability to work on their own initiative.
  • a high level of communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults.
  • the ability to use relevant technology/equipment.
  • a can-do attitude.
  • flexible and a team player.

The role is a fixed term contract to run until 31 July 2025 term-time only (39 weeks per year), 20 hours per week

  • Suggested work pattern - 4 hours per day, Monday - Friday, 09:30 - 13:45, includes 15 mins unpaid break, but we can be flexible on these times.

Salary - Surrey PS3 range (FTE £23,567) Pro-rata £11,263.64 - £11,467.41

There is the potential of an additional 5 hours a week, lunchtime supervisor role. Please advise if you would be interested in this addition.
