Learning support assistant/ Teaching assistant job summary

The primary purpose of the post is to support the children in the classroom setting so they can engage in learning effectively.

The successful candidate will:

Have high expectations and a commitment to supporting children

Have excellent communication skills

Have a positive outlook and a good sense of humour

Demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills, (GCSE A-C in Maths & English or equivalent)

Have (or be willing to undertake) relevant first aid qualifications

Be able to implement learning activities to enable the child to access the curriculum

Have a willingness to learn new skills

Have the ability to build the child’s self-esteem

Use a variety of positive behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s ethos and behaviour policy.

Be an excellent team player

Be organised and able to work independently and under pressure

Have a flexible, calm and professional manner

An understanding of the Early Years curriculum is desirable as well as experience of the needs of autistic children.
