Level 3 Teaching Assistant job summary

As a key member of our learning support team, you will work closely with the SENDCo, Assistant SENDCo, class teachers, and HLTA to provide targeted support for pupils who require additional help to overcome barriers to learning. Your role will involve:

  • Supporting pupils’ learning across the curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, and science.

  • Implementing individual and group work programmes, both in the classroom and in specialized support areas such as the PLC or The Bridge.

  • Supervising whole-class activities during short-term teacher absences, following pre-prepared plans.

  • Observing and monitoring pupil progress, recording achievements, and providing accurate feedback to teachers.

  • Assisting with marking and maintaining pupil records.

  • Promoting positive behaviour, supporting pupils to take responsibility for their actions, and resolving conflicts in line with school policy.

  • Liaising sensitively with parents and participating in feedback meetings.

  • Supporting the administration of routine tests and exams.

  • Contributing to the development and delivery of ILPs and small intervention programs.

  • Providing 1:1 mentoring, guidance, and support to SEND students, including those experiencing distress.

  • Supporting the training and development of staff as required.

  • Supervising pupils during out-of-school activities, trips, and visits.

  • Collaborating with external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.

The role is for;

  • 37 hours per week

  • 39 weeks per year, including inset days

About You
To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Hold NVQ Level 3 in Teaching Assistance or an equivalent qualification.

  • Have experience working with children with SEND.

  • Possess excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Be knowledgeable in current learning support and behaviour management strategies.

  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

  • Be committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and enriching learning environment.
