Librarian and Learning Resource Centre Manager job summary
We are seeking to appoint an able, creative, efficient and personable professional to run our Learning Resource Centre, Library and Bookshop. The role is term-time only. The hours will vary day-to-day to meet the needs of the School, eg. enabling students to access the library after school on some days, attending team meetings on Mondays. This flexibility will be discussed with the successful candidate. The role would suit someone with relevant skills and / or experience looking for an opportunity to make a day-to-day difference to the learning of young people and supporting teachers’ resource needs. The role would also suit someone with strong administrative abilities, self-motivation and a real desire to work with students and teachers.
Responsibilities will include organising the Library’s resources to meet the needs of the curriculum, lending and cataloguing, running the Library Bookshop, including ordering books for departments and students, managing the Library budget, providing a library service during break, lunchtime and (on specified days) after school, enabling students to borrow and return books and develop good reading habits, managing the learning resource needs of teachers by processing daily printing and copying requests, supporting school publications, such as the school magazine, and working with the English Department to support and run literacy and reading events and activities and promoting the School’s strong culture of reading. The role also provides the opportunity to contribute to the pastoral care and wellbeing of students by being a form tutor. Opportunities to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the School are plenty.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with strong administrative and organisational skills, the ability to manage and prioritise an independent workload and the interpersonal skills needed to develop productive and positive relationships with staff and students by offering a valuable service to the School. Recent graduates and / or people with professional experience are welcome to apply.
