Job Title: Literacy Support Assistant
Start date: ASAP
Contract: Permanent, 36 hours per week, term time plus 5 days
Salary: NJC Grade 4, Scale points 6-8 (Actual salary £19,602 to £20,324 per annum)
Are you an experienced librarian, interested in managing the school library and supporting students to develop their literacy skills? We are looking for someone who is passionate about reading and wants to help the progress of young people. Professional, friendly, patient and polite, with good interpersonal skills and an ability to work with students and teachers with literacy development and championing reading.
The successful candidate will:
- Have an interest in reading, literary, education and working with young people
- Be responsible for the day to day management of the school library
- Develop and promote literacy, reading for enjoyment and information handling, research and study skills
- Be a positive team player, believe in the importance of team work and adopt a collaborative approach to working.

Thornhill Academy is an 11 to 16 secondary academy, with over six hundred students which occupies a large site in close proximity to Sunderland City Centre.
