Lunchtime & Private Study Supervisor job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who likes working within a school. We are looking to appoint someone with good communication skills who is positive, even tempered and calm under pressure to:

  • supervise students during the midday break, to ensure the safety, general welfare and proper conduct of students
  • supervise sixth form students during the afternoon private study periods to ensure a calm, purposeful working atmosphere

Key responsibilities for the role include:

  • Supervision of students immediately before, during and after the midday meal. This includes students who have a school meal as well as those who bring their own food.
  • Supervision of students’ entry to/ exit from the canteen building.
  • Supervision of students in the dining areas, or other area of the school as required, dealing with any incidents of inappropriate student behaviour in line with the school’s Behaviour Management Policy.
  • To be firm, fair and consistent in any contact with students in order to achieve the level of discipline required to maintain order.
  • To support the monitoring of sixth form students “tapping” back in following having tapped out to go for lunch off-site or their afternoon registration when they have a supervised study period rather than a lesson.
  • To supervise sixth formers during afternoon private study periods to ensure a calm, purposeful working atmosphere.
  • To be aware of, and comply with, relevant legislation and codes of practice, particularly the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Trust’s Child Protection and Safeguarding policy.
  • To assist in such duties and activities relating to the general administration and control of the school as the Governors and the Headteacher shall from time to time reasonably require.
  • To report to the Headteacher or lead duty member of the Senior Leadership Team for that day any serious incident occurring during the midday break, and complete any necessary paperwork.

  • be able to form good working relationships with students and colleagues
  • be able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • be flexible and adaptable to changing needs and priorities, remaining positive, even tempered and calm under pressure
  • have excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
  • have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn new computer skills
