Lunchtime Supervisor job summary
Job Purpose
The Lunchtime Supervisor should have appropriate personal qualities to exercise full authority delegated by their line manager for the conduct of the pupils during the school lunchtime period.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To take responsibility for the lunchtime supervision of pupils, and the smooth running of lunchtime sessions.
Supervise pupils in the dining hall, playground areas and school premises, ensuring an acceptable level of order and discipline is maintained according to the guidelines set by their line manager.
Oversee the discipline, safety and welfare of pupils, dealing with disciplinary matters of pupils according to rules and policies laid down by the school.
In the case of an accident or illness of a pupil -
To ensure that there is appropriate first aid available as and when required
To notify the Office and/or Line Manager of any serious incidences which may have occurred during the lunchtime.
Ensure that the accident book/log is correctly completed.
To have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and to follow the school’s safeguarding policy.
Follow fire and evacuation procedures and check pupils are safe.
To undertake the full role of a lunchtime supervisor.
To supervise pupils, during the lunch period, in dining hall, playground areas and school premises, ensuring the safety, welfare, well-being of pupils and the maintenance of good discipline.
See that the overall arrangement for children to dine promotes an orderly and pleasant meals service.
To supervise and control entrance and exit by pupils during the lunch break to school premises and ensure calm orderly conduct in accordance with the school’s high expectations.
Where appropriate, collect pupils from classroom ensuring that they are adequately dressed for the weather conditions.
Duties and responsibilities – training & administration
Participate in appropriate school-based meetings and training activities.
Review and develop own professional practice by attending relevant courses and provide feedback to colleagues.
Organise cover for absences.
Prepare suitable play equipment and / or activities for the children during normal and wet lunchtimes.
Organise staffing rotas.
To complete relevant paperwork in connection with lunchtime supervision.
Such other appropriate duties as may be requested by their line manager to ensure the smooth functioning of the school during the lunch break.
Duties and responsibilities – general
Ensure all pupils return to their classroom at the end of lunchtime.
Respect the confidentiality of sensitive information divulged by staff, parents/carers and pupils.
Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school.
Understand and comply with the school’s Safeguarding Policy and guidelines.
Maintain confidentiality at all times and observe Data Protection guidelines.
Supervision and Safeguarding
Assist with the supervision of children outside of lesson times, including before and after school and during break and lunchtime.
To be accountable for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children responsible for, and in contact with.
Liaison with
The Catering Supervisor regarding the conduct of pupils.
Teaching Staff regarding lunchtime issues as appropriate.
Your line manager to ensure the smooth running of the school at lunchtime
The Office Staff regarding the recording of accidents and administration of first aid.
