MATERNITY COVER MAIN SCALE KEY STAGE 2 CLASS TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION
The post holder will take responsibility for a class of children determined on an annual basis by the Headteacher and in accordance with the duties listed below.
Duties
The current school Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document describes duties with are required to be undertaken by teachers in the course of their employment. In addition, certain particular duties are reasonable required to be exercised, and completed in a satisfactory manner. It is the contractual duty of the post holder to ensure that his/her professional duties are discharged effectively
The job description set out the duties to be undertaken and performed to the satisfaction of the Headteacher and governing body by the post holder in the role of ‘Class Teacher’.
Specific Responsibilities
• The post holder is responsible to their line manager for his/her duties, responsibilities and teaching tasks
• The post holder will interact on a professional level with all colleagues and establish and maintain good working relationships which will promote the development and effective delivery of the school curriculum and maximise children’s achievement
• The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of the work of support staff
• The post holder undertakes the teaching of the pupils in his/her class and the associated pastoral and administrative duties in respect of those pupils as well as the general responsibilities in the school as agreed with the Headteacher
General Responsibilities
• Teaching all pupils in your class according to their educational needs and acknowledging that every lesson counts
• Creating a well ordered and secure environment that will ensure the educational well-being of individual children within the group
• Making effective use of ICT to enhance learning and teaching
• To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced and relevant curriculum
• Ensuring careful and ongoing assessment of the pupils learning to inform further planning
• Ensuring that the curriculum is differentiated to mean that tasks and activities are matched to the ability of the children and henceforth allowing them to make progress at the right pace and level
• Completing all assessments and records as determined by school policy in a timely fashion
• Working with school leaders to track the progress of individual children and intervene where pupils are not making progress
• Working with school leaders to complete and teach individual pupil plans where pupils have specific needs. (Learning Plans)
• Ensuring that equal opportunities are implemented in the classroom and throughout the school
• Developing and maintaining positive relationship with parents, which involve them actively in the classroom and in the learning process
• Participating in planning and staff meetings
• Contributing towards the development of the school and implementation of whole school policies
• Contributing and co-operating with other staff and professional agencies as appropriate to the needs of the children

Qualifications
Educated to degree level - Essential
Qualified teacher status either in the UK - Essential
Experience
Must have taught in either Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage - Essential
Will have had experience of teaching in a multicultural inner city environment - Essential
Will have completed their NQT year successfully and have least 2 further years of experience - Desirable
Professional Knowledge and Understanding
Must understand the expectations in the new Ofsted Framework regarding effective learning and teaching - Essential
Must have a sound knowledge of the National Curriculum orders for all the subjects for both the key stages - Essential
A sound knowledge and understanding of the foundation stage curriculum (if applying for a foundation stage post) - Essential
A good understanding of the national literacy and numeracy strategies was well as the emerging primary strategy - Essential
An excellent understanding of curriculum and pedagogical issue relating to learning and teaching, including the latest inspection and research findings - Essential
Familiarity with KS1 and 2 standardised attainment tests - Desirable
Understanding of the commitment to the school policies, in particular (Essential):
–participation and implementation of the school behaviour policy
– awareness of Health & Safety implementation in the work place
– implementation of the school Equal Opportunities Policy
Must understand the contribution of EMAG work in a primary school and what constitutes good practice and support for bilingual learners - Essential
Knowledge of effective strategies to include, and meet the needs of, all pupils in particular underachieving groups of pupils, pupils with EAL and SEN - Essential
Familiarity with writing and delivering effective individual education plans for pupils with SEN - Essential
Professional Skills and Abilities
A good classroom practitioner willing and able to teach a class in either key stage as deemed necessary under the Fresh start arrangements - Essential
A teacher with good ICT knowledge and skills relating to the class teaching, able to demonstrate the effective use of ICT to enhance the learning and teaching - Essential
Must be able to plan lessons effectively for all the pupils in a class, setting clear learning intentions and differentiated tasks - Essential
Must be able to keep records of pupil progress in line with school policy - Essential
Must be able to use assessments of pupils learning to inform future planning - Essential
Ability to plan and work collaboratively with colleagues - Essential
Personal Qualities
Must be willing and enjoy engaging parents in order to encourage their close involvement in the education of their children - Essential
A teacher with a flexible approach to work who enjoys being a good team member - Essential

We are very pleased to welcome you to South Grove Primary School. South Grove is a two-form entry primary school for children from 3-11. We were graded as Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted in January 2019. Our Nursery provides 40 part-time places both morning and afternoon, with some full-time places. In addition we have a Special Resourced Provision for 16 children with a diagnosis of Autism and Developmental Global Delay of which we are very proud. This allows children to be fully integrated into the life of the school and equally, access the specialist support that will enable them to develop and grow.
