What skills and experience we're looking for

This is a permanent full-time post, and is available from the start of Term 5, Mon 17 April 2023. An earlier start date may be an option. This is an exciting time to be joining our school as we enter a new chapter in our history with a new Headteacher. This post provides a unique opportunity to develop new skills in a school which has a compelling vision and deep commitment to providing exceptional teaching and learning.

We would welcome a colleague with a passion for maths teaching who loves to see mathematicians of all abilities enjoying their maths, learning actively, and making rapid progress. The maths department are a forward-looking team who engage in collaborative development, and we would welcome a colleague who wants to contribute their ideas. We are seeking to appoint a candidate able to teach Mathematics to all the Key Stages and all abilities.

What the school offers its staff

Mathematics is a friendly department with a well-qualified, committed team of teachers who enjoy working collaboratively. There is a lot of extra-curricular maths, especially in the sixth form. Many students have taken part in the British Mathematical Olympiad and Sixth Form Interschool Maths Competitions. There are currently over 200 students studying Maths at A Level. Several students in recent years have gone on to study Mathematics at top universities, including Oxbridge, and there is considerable support and encouragement for these students from the department. We are also proud of the way we help under confident and lower ability mathematicians develop.

We are located at the heart of the city and have a diverse student community with considerable parental support. 53% of students in the main school are from black and minority ethnic backgrounds and 19% of students have been recorded as being entitled to Pupil Premium funding. We educate relatively high numbers of Children in Care. Our diversity is a strength and something we celebrate. The Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre currently houses approximately 700 students taken from our own school and from many other schools across the City. The School was judged in April 2015 to be outstanding by Ofsted in each and every category. We were also judged outstanding in our last church school (SIAMS) inspection in March 2017. Despite this there is absolutely no sense of complacency. We are a forward-looking school with a relentless focus on providing the absolute best provision so that no child is left behind. We are passionate about providing opportunity for all staff to develop. Staff are encouraged to develop leadership roles, including working with, and helping to improve, other local schools. All leaders contribute extremely well to improving teaching and learning The school invests heavily and productively in ensuring that staff and leaders have every opportunity to develop their expertise for the benefit of students. Professional development for staff is extremely well planned and implemented; it is linked closely to teachers’ targets for improvement.
