1. Essential Qualifications and Experience
a. Qualified Teacher status and evidence of appropriate subsequent substantial Inset and /or Continuing Professional Development.
b. Successful experience of delivering a differentiated curriculum to pupils with a wide range of needs.
c. Successful experience of managing an effective classroom environment to support student learning and positive behaviour.
d. Successful experience of managing teaching assistants to improve learning.
2. Personal Qualities
a. The ability to inspire, motivate and support students, staff, parents/carers and colleagues.
b. Evidence of the ability to consult and seek advice and professional support as necessary.
c. Evidence of the ability to listen and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
d. The ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment.
e. A well-developed sense of humour and emotional intelligence.
3. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
a. Evidence of successful teaching experience to provide exemplar practice to staff and raise the quality of standards in teaching and learning.

c. Evidence of the ability to work co-operatively with multi-disciplinary professionals, governors and other agencies.
d. Evidence of the ability to promote a positive ethos and pride in the College together with high standards of education, care and behaviour.

Oak Grove College is a community generic special school providing special education for 281 students with learning difficulties from Year 7 to Year 14. We are part of the Thrive Federation of Schools which also includes Palatine Primary School, Herons Dale School and Cornfield School.
We are immensely proud of our college and our community. We are committed to providing the very best for young people while they are with us, helping them to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence and aspiration to succeed throughout their lives. It is a 15 minute walk from Durrington-on-Sea train station, there is a bus stop just by the entrance, a large car park for those travelling by car and good pedestrian access for those on foot. West Sussex County Council staff can also obtain 15% staff discount on Southern Rail daily, weekly, monthly and annual tickets and are entitled to a range of other travel discounts and incentives too.

We welcome applications from teachers with excellent special or mainstream experience in primary or secondary sector. A programme of support and training will be offered to develop your understanding and skills in special educational needs within a supportive environment.
Applicants who are invited to interview will also be observed working with a class of students to demonstrate how they interact with students and structure learning. We fully intend to hold interviews face to face and will provide more information about how this can be conducted safely.
