Maths and Numeracy Subject Leader job summary

The following responsibilities of the post are in addition to the duties of a teacher as set out in the Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document (DfES):-

1. Maintain entitlement to the National Curriculum by teaching pupils to GCSE level and other Accreditations as appropriate.

2. Coordinate Maths and Numeracy delivery to ensure that the highest quality of learning and teaching is achieved and is focused upon the needs and aptitudes of each pupil, as targeted and monitored through their Individual Learning Plan.

3. Provide coherence and direction to the teaching of Maths and Numeracy by other colleagues, if appropriate, through giving support and guidance when requested or necessary to ensure that coordinated team delivery occurs.

4. Monitor Maths and Numeracy curriculum policies, ensuring that these are developed, adhered to and revised as necessary.

5. Enable cross-curricula development by planning approaches and providing activities that call upon, and contribute to, a knowledge and understanding of other subjects.

6. Continue the development of the PRU’s Numeracy Strategy in consultation with the Teaching and Learning Team and Head of School.

7. Develop and maintain clear record keeping systems so that pupil progress and achievement is monitored and regularly reviewed. In particular, ensure all baseline assessments in Maths and Numeracy are completed, termly re-testing completed and information fed to Head of School.

8. Contribute subject specialised knowledge and practice to inform that PRUs assessment and identification of pupils’ needs. Ensure a gap analysis is carried out form initial assessments and programmes and interventions are planned on an individual basis.

9. Advise upon and keep under review the full range of syllabuses offered in Maths and Numeracy, particularly those leading to external Accreditation.

10. Be responsible to a specified member of the PRUs Leadership Team, for Keyworking pupils to promote educational achievement and enhance reintegration, liaising with parents/carers, schools and all support agencies as necessary.

11. Ensure that Maths specific classrooms and resources are well organised and maintained, and that an annual stock check of the Maths inventory occurs.

12. Ensure that the organisation and display of pupils’ work is designed to promote learning and reflect the achievements of all pupils. Ensure that the Whole PRU environment is Numeracy rich.

13. Contribute to the school maintaining the Quality Mark for Numeracy and Literacy

14. Ensure that the Health & Safety Policy with specific regard to Maths and Numeracy is implemented and kept under review.

15. Participate in and lead INSET to enable personal professional development and the development of the PRU and the staff team.

16. Participate in the LEA framework for the Performance Management of Teachers.

17. To work within and promote the schools’ equalities policy and contribute and adhere to policies relevant to the post.

18. To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Childrens’ Act 2004 and Keeping Children Safe in Education 2018 in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young people as this applies to your role within the school.

19. To ensure that your line manager is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which you may have in relation to safeguarding and / or child protection.

20. Undertake other such duties as may be required by the LEA in pursuit of its statutory obligations and other reasonable duties as may be delegated by the Head.
