What skills and experience we're looking for
We wish to appoint an outstanding teacher who will be able to teach GCSE Biology and Maths to small, foundation level groups of KS4 students on our KS4 Alternative Curriculum pathways. Either a Science or Maths specialist will be suitable for the role, so long as they are able to take on the foundation level teaching of the subject (either Biology or Maths) which is not their specific specialism. A good amount of additional PPA time will be provided for the role plus additional support time from a specialist teacher in one of those 2 departments. It is likely some of the lessons might even be team-taught if it is outside the candidate’s specific specialism. The post holder will need to be able to inspire and engage small groups of our vocational pathway students. The post holder will work with the Assistant Head and Deputy Head responsible for the provision to ensure progress of students in Maths and/or Science at Key Stage 4.
The successful candidate must be highly motivated, demonstrate continuous reflection and a commitment to self-improvement. They must be willing to actively participate in the co-curricular life of the department and that of the school. The candidate should expect to teach across the full range of abilities, and be adept at creating and delivering engaging lessons, working to develop the provision offered for the students. Our school is welcoming and supportive, with a strong value placed on ‘being the best you can be’ and staff and students on a mission to achieve great outcomes for all our students.
This position is to full time, fixed term for one year and is available from 1st September 2023.
