In selecting candidates for interview and eventual selection, the school will be looking for teachers with relevant education, experience, job-related knowledge, aptitudes, and skills, and many of the personal qualities listed below. Education, Training and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status
- First Degree or equivalent in Mathematics/Computer Studies or related subject
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Commitment to the comprehensive ideal and to the principles and practice of equal opportunities and inclusion
- The knowledge and vision to put these into practice to meet current and future challenges within your subject and pastoral areas
- A keen interest in young people as individuals, in how they learn, and in a collaborative approach to learning
- A good understanding of student needs, support and interventions.
- An ability to teach the full age range of 11 – 18 in Maths/Computer Studies, including potentially A Level
- Ensure effective learning for all students through excellent teaching and delivery of well-planned and organised lessons
- Assess, record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of all students
- Use appropriate strategies to ensure outstanding student progress and wellbeing
- Support the development of teaching materials and revision resources within the department
- Support necessary intervention and/or enrichment activities for students to further develop their experience of Maths within the school.

- Flexibility, ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
- Effective oral and written communication
- Reflective, approachable and have a sense of humour
- Ability to work as part of a team, establishing good working relationships with a wide range of people including students, parents, governors, and colleagues.

What the school offers its staff
The department was praised in the last OFSTED inspection, “Mathematics is a strength of the school.” Students apply mathematical skills adeptly in a range of other subjects.”. The school is keen to develop still further the academic successes which have been gained by the pupils right across the ability range including a number of students going on to study Mathematics at degree level at Oxbridge and other universities. At GCSE, there is a high attainment (typically 80% 9-4/A*-C) and very positive value-added e.g. EBacc Maths value-added was “significantly above” national
'We are a strong, supportive department with a keen interest in Mathematics teaching and developing our practice. Staff are encouraged to share their ideas and are always happy to engage in a discussion about how best to teach a specific concept. Department meetings are centered around maths specific CPD and improving our mathematics teaching. Staff embrace this, frequently continuing these conversations into the week discussing their experiences as they experiment with these ideas.'
