Outwood Academy Bydales is an 11-16 school located in the beautiful coastal village of Marske-by-the-Sea, close to the North York Moors National Park. The successful candidate for this position will receive an Outwood Welcome Bonus of £5,000 in addition to the annual salary. This will be paid in the first month's salary.

We are seeking a Head of MFL with the drive and vision to deliver excellence in languages’ lessons for all year groups. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our outstanding academy and to lead our successful MFL department. We are passionate about the study of languages and are committed to ensuring that this is an exciting and vibrant department. You should possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘Students First’. You will ensure effective teaching and learning is in place in MFL to secure outstanding outcomes for students. The academy promotes and encourages all students to enjoy and participate fully in languages and to recognise the opportunities this brings. The percentage of students choosing to study a language at GCSE has steadily increased and is over 91% in 2023.

The MFL Department offers French & Spanish at KS3 and French, German & Spanish at KS4. Applicants will need to be able to teach French and/or Spanish to GCSE level but being able to offer German instead of Spanish will also be considered.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Bydales is rated Outstanding by Ofsted and in its latest report, Ofsted noted that ‘staff morale is extremely high’ at the academy and that with help from other members of the Outwood Family, we provide our staff with a varied training programme.

We have also won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us.
