St Wilfrid’s has an extremely strong reputation in the community and as such, we are heavily oversubscribed with waiting lists in all year groups. We are a 5-form entry Catholic School with 770 students in Year 7-11 and 192 students in our Sixth Form. In September 2020, we took 6 forms into Year7 and this will continue for September 2021 and beyond.

The students love their school and staff love working here. In our most recent Section 48 inspection, where we were rated “Outstanding”, the inspectors commented, “in every interview the word “community” was one of the defining characteristics of St Wilfrid’s”. The quotes below are from staff members who have recently joined us:

“I joined St. Wilfrid’s mid-way through the year, and the friendliness and supportiveness of my new colleagues helped make this smoother than I expected. The students have been friendly and helpful, and their behaviour has lived up to the high expectations everyone has of them. The warm Catholic ethos of the school is evident in the respectful relationships between everyone, and I love the perspective it gives to our busy days together.” Mr K Hector (Subject Leader for Humanities)

“As soon as I visited St Wilfrid’s and met the Headteacher, I felt assured that my aim as a teacher matched the ethos of the school – not just getting our students the best educational outcomes, but helping them to develop as young people. I quickly settled in and despite having been here only a year, it certainly feels like longer – in the best possible way! The staff team are welcoming and supportive and the students’ value the community they are a part of. The friendly, positive atmosphere around the school really does make teaching here rewarding and enjoyable!” Mrs K Houlton (Maths)

“I have been at St Wilfrid’s for just over a year and have loved every minute of it. From the moment I walked in for my interview and first day it has been welcoming and I have felt like I have always been here. St Wilfrid’s has a strong community feel and a massive positive vibe. I really enjoy being part of the maths team here and look forward to spending my future teaching career at St Wilfrid’s.” Mrs V Coote (Maths)

Students at St Wilfrid’s make “above average” progress overall and our reputation for this is countywide. We are determined to do even better.

If you are someone who wishes to work in a community which is inclusive and where every member is treated with dignity and respect then St Wilfrid’s is the place for you.
