Midday Assistant job summary
- Helping children and young people to choose their lunch and to eat it as independently as possible;
- Spoon feeding children and young people who need the highest levels of support;
- Relating to children and young people in a way that helps them to communicate and to feel safe and happy in school;
- Supporting and engaging in play activities in class and playground areas, keeping children and young people safe and positively occupied;
- Supervising children and young people as they move around the school;
- Following any guidelines for individual children and young people – for example relating to eating and drinking, behaviour or independence;
- Helping children and young people to manage their behaviour by setting clear boundaries and giving clear directions in a positive manner;
- Remaining vigilant for anything that might put children and young people at risk and taking appropriate action quickly –e.g. mopping up spillages, ensuring that young people stay with their group;
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the designated safeguarding lead;
- Supporting personal care including helping children and young people to wash and use the toilet and changing them if necessary;
- Understanding and complying with Health & Safety rules and procedures.;
- Attending training as arranged with due notice given.
Support for school
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person;
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop;
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the School and abide by its Code of Ethics;
- Appreciate and support the role of other professionals;
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required;
- Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
General responsibilities:
- To ensure that the responsibilities of the role are carried out in a way that reflects the vision and values of the Trust.
- To be aware of and observe all policies, procedures, working practices and regulations, and in particular to comply with policies relating to Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Data Protection and Financial Regulations, reporting any concerns to an appropriate person.
- To uphold our commitment to safeguarding and to promote the wellbeing of children.
- To contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
- To comply with all reasonable management requests.
