Non Teaching Head of Year job summary

Key Responsibilities and DutiesStudent Welfare and Behaviour Management

  • Be accountable for the attendance, punctuality, and conduct of the students in your year group

  • To liaise with the EWO assigned to the school over matters relating to the welfare of students and the attendance.

  • Set high standards of expectations for all students and ensure they adhere to the school's systems and policies

  • Plan and apply strategies/interventions for rapid progress of students accordingly

  • Work to support the safety of all students at Sanders Draper and as directed by SLT

Academic Monitoring and Intervention
  • Monitor the academic progress of students in your year group, identifying areas for improvement and implementing targeted support, using systems such as DPR and SMID

  • Collaborate with subject teachers, pastoral staff, and the SLT to develop and implement effective strategies to raise student achievement

  • Oversee the delivery of academic interventions and support programmes, ensuring they are tailored to the specific needs of individual students

  • Analyse data and use it to inform decision-making, with the aim of driving continuous improvement in student outcomes

Pastoral Care and Guidance
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance to students, addressing their social, emotional, and personal needs

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes the well-being of all students

  • To oversee aspects of the day to day running of tutor teams

  • To be responsible for the standards of form time within the year group.

  • Develop/maintain strong relationships with parents/carers, ensuring effective communication/collaboration

  • Work closely with the school's safeguarding team to identify and support students who may be at risk

  • To deliver updates and training through the school bulletin/briefing

  • To complete Welfare Checks when required, either by telephone or by conducting home visits

Whole-School Contribution
  • Contribute to development, implementation, and evaluation of school's policies, practises, and procedures

  • Participate in the wider life of the school, supporting school events, activities, and initiatives

  • Attend relevant staff meetings

  • Represent the school and act as a positive ambassador within the local community

  • To be on ‘duty’ points in line with the duty timetable.

Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues

  • Strong organisational and time management, with ability to prioritise, managing multiple tasks effectively

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams, with ability to motivate and inspire others

  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures, such as Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024, with the ability to identify and respond to concerns

  • Commitment to promoting the school's values of Resilience, Achievement, and Family, and a passion for providing the best possible educational experience for all students

  • Ability to use data and evidence-based approaches to drive continuous improvement in student outcomes

  • To be familiar with systems, such as CPOMS and SIMS to log safeguarding and behavioural concerns

Safeguarding

  • Promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children, in line with the school's safeguarding and child protection policies

  • Identifying and responding to any concerns about the safety or well-being of students, and reporting these to the designated safeguarding lead

  • Ensuring that all staff under your supervision are aware of and adhere to the school's safeguarding procedures

  • Participating in regular safeguarding training and updates to maintain a strong understanding of best practice and current legislation
