JOB DESCRIPTION
POST: Nursery Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Nursery Manager, Foundation Stage Lead, SLT
SALARY: Scale 1 NJC point 2 to point 3 £23,656 to £24,027 (£8,321 to £8,450 Pro rata)
LOCATION: Grange Park Primary School
WORKING PATTERN: Term time plus one week – 15 hours per week Monday – Friday 12:30 – 15:30
CONTRACT: Fixed Term until 31st August 2025
DISCLOSURE LEVEL: Enhanced DBS
KEY RELATIONSHIPS: EYFS staff, pupils and parents/carers
MAIN PURPOSE:
To help provide education and childcare services of the highest quality to children from the age of 2 up to 4 years old. This will be provided through nursery sessions.
The duties of the post are varied and will alter as the Nursery Assistant develops in the work environment to reflect the gains in their experience and knowledge.
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
Be aware of and support difference and ensure equal opportunities for all.
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
MAIN PURPOSE:
Participate in the day running of the Nursery, adhering to the policies and procedures.
To demonstrate an ability to work and communicate effectively with other team members, children, parents/carers and other professionals. Ensure that a positive impression is maintained at all times.
To provide a welcoming environment for children, parents and carers.
To work in partnership with parents to ensure that they are actively involved in children’s learning and care and build relationships so that the exchange of home and nursery/childcare information is possible.
Work as directed by the Nursery Manager in developing child led planning as part of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
To work in partnership with other Nursery staff.
Ensure that records are kept up to date and that any recording is in line with the policies on Confidentiality and Recording.
To identify and care for the children’s needs by sharing knowledge and experiences with the parents in conjunction with the Early Years Foundation Stage Strategic Lead. This will involve such duties as nappy changing, toilet training, feeding, washing hands and faces, supervision of meals, where appropriate preparation of snacks and supervision of sleep times.
Ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times. Children who are ill must be cared for until their parents are contacted and are able to collect them.
Abide at all times by the Code of Practice on Protecting Children from Harm. Report any suspected safeguarding issues to the Early Years Foundation Stage Lead and safeguarding team appropriately and respect confidentiality.
Ensure that all children and their families are treated in a fair and equitable manner, ensuring that all staff abides by the Equal Opportunities Policy.
Undertake training required to perform your duties.
Work alongside staff to ensure that the nursery setting is attractive, stimulating and informative. Ensure all equipment and resources are clearly and brightly labelled. Where necessary set up and clean up before and after activities.
To support and engage children in their learning through fun activities and play.
To have a flexible approach to work, as there will be occasions where the post holder will need to work with all age groups in Nursery.
To be able to offer professional opinions, both verbally and written in matters relating to the child where the need for shared information may arise.
Take measures to ensure that the environment is always safe for children, staff and visitors. Report all defects to the Early Years Foundation Stage Strategic Lead and Nursery Teacher.
Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager and the Early Years Foundation Stage Strategic Lead.
The duties of this post may change over time and the post holder will be consulted on any changes.
To be first aider in the nursery.
SPECIFIC RESPONSBILITIES
To assist in the smooth running of Nursery, supporting Nursery Manager and all Nursery staff wherever needed. Preparing resources and assisting in the general day to day care of the children.

The post holder will be expected to have an agreed flexible working pattern to ensure that all relevant functions are fulfilled through direct dialogue with employees, contractors and community members.
English Duty
This role is covered under part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.
