New Bridge is a 60 place (full time equivalent) Local Authority funded Nursery School serving a mixed catchment area. We are situated close to Reading, and the borders of Oxfordshire. We are a school, just like a Primary and Secondary School, with a Head Teacher and qualified staff.
We are very pleased to be based in a Victorian primary school building, leased to Reading Borough Council by the Diocese of Oxford as a Nursery School. Many improvements and adaptations have been gradually made to update the spacious classrooms and hall. Changes have been made to meet the needs of younger children and to facilitate staff to support all children accessing all areas of the curriculum.
The mainstream children join one of two groups and are encouraged to use all areas of the Nursery, both inside and out. Experienced Early Years Practitioners, overseen by a qualified Teacher, create stimulating learning opportunities. Staff work together for the benefit of all the children and meet daily to discuss, record and plan for the children’s needs.
All children are entitled to Government funding for 15 hours free nursery education once they turn 3. There is now an option of free 30 hours if both parents or a single parent works for a minimum of 16½ hours (link:- http://www.reading.gov.uk/thirtyhrschildcare).
We are federated with both Caversham Nursery School and Blagdon Nursery School and we are well supported by Governors and parents who spend time in school either with the children or organising fund-raising events. Occasionally NVQ3 students are in placement here as well as secondary aged pupils on work experience. Sometimes student teachers also join the teams. We have many visitors who are interested in the Nursery and we extend a welcome to people on a range of courses. We have therefore built up good links with many organisations.
New Bridge has the highly regarded Snowflake Centre as a resource for ten children with Autism. Highly trained and experienced staff support their learning and development in the Centre and when integrating into the main Nursery. We have many visitors to Snowflakes to learn from our highly experienced team.
