Operations Manager job summary
We are looking to appoint an Operations Manager to lead the Business/ Administrative function in our Special Needs School. The Abbey School provides education for 121 secondary aged students all of whom have learning and additional needs. Over the next 2 years The Abbey will be undergoing significant investment and development as we expand from a 2 to 3 form entry school to support Surrey County Council’s SEND Sufficiency Strategy. This will provide us with a range of amazing new facilities including 9 classrooms (4 subject specialist), a learning resource unit, sports hall, a number of new offices and a suite of therapy rooms. We are fortunate to be set within walking distance of Farnham town centre and train station.
We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills who is able to lead a small team, valuing and developing colleagues to deliver outstanding customer service at all levels. The successful candidate will also be proactive, use their initiative and follow through in resolving issues and tasks. You will be an excellent administrator with good IT skills, and most importantly will have a positive can-do attitude. A knowledge of fundraising would also be advantageous but is not essential to the role. This role could suit someone without finance experience who would welcome working alongside a skilled and experienced Finance Business Partner to develop skills / experience of working within the academy sector.

In terms of career development, this role will include the opportunity to work alongside other colleagues within the Trust to build experience in terms of project management of a large capital expansion programme, working alongside the COO of the Trust to build experience of contract procurement and management, and generally work collaboratively with other colleagues in similar roles within the Trust. We are a Trust committed to developing our Associate Staff colleagues and appropriate development such as ISBL qualifications, National College of Education courses would be available where appropriate.

Located in south Farnham, The Abbey is an outstanding secondary special school with 120 students who have learning and additional needs (LAN). About 40% of our students have autism or other social communication difficulties, a quarter have speech and language needs and others have physical challenges or complex health care needs. Expectations for student outcomes are high, but helping them overcome barriers to learning is an equally important part of our role.
The school has been part of the Weydon MAT since 2018. Over the next 2 years The Abbey will be undergoing significant investment as we expand from a 2 to 3 form entry school to support Surrey County Council’s SEND Sufficiency Strategy 2020 – 2025.
