What skills and experience we're looking for
St Barnabas Multi Academy Trust are seeking to appoint an ambitious, motivated and enthusiastic Outdoor Instructor who has vision, can take initiative and can contribute to the provision of curriculum based and extra-curricular outdoor education across our sites. Our provision of outdoor education is something that excites us here at St Barnabas MAT. We want our pupils to develop social and life skills through the medium of outdoor adventure, to support with this we are looking for someone who can operate within the school and outdoor education safety policy, keep up to date with all aspects of activity/qualification development and instigate their own personal development.
We are looking for someone who can support the Senior Outdoor instructor to develop a first class Outdoor Education Programme. Skilled at facilitating groups and individual’s personal development using outdoor education. Experience of working with young people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work unsupervised, be accountable and responsible for the safety of a group of young people. Exemplify on an ongoing basis the BRING IT! Vision of the Trust.
Experience, knowledge and skills required:
Personal experience of outdoor adventure and instigating own personal development. Experience of working with guidance from more experienced staff as part of a team. Experience working in an outdoor education setting / centre with pupils of primary age. Experience working in an outdoor education setting with young people.
GCSE English and Maths.
Full driving licence
Experienced and active personal practitioner in three or more mainstream outdoor activities, be able to communicate and relate well with young people and have the ability to lead and assist children in a range of outdoor activities.
Experience, knowledge and skills required - Desirable:
Experience of working in a residential centre.
RYA powerboat level 2.
RYA dinghy Instructor.
John Muir Award Training.
Forest School Training.
Minimum Tier 2 Safeguarding Training.
GNVQ or equivalent outdoor qualification.
16 hour for outdoor first aid.
National Governing Body Awards.
Mountain leader.
British Cycling Level 2 MTB Leader award.
Rock Climbing instructor award.
BCU kayak/canoe leader award
