What skills and experience we're looking for
North Star 82° is the primary provision of North Star Academy Trust based in North Bristol, specialising in supporting pupils experiencing Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. We aim to be part of a joined-up provision offering our pupils the outstanding education they deserve. We have an exciting new opportunity for an Outdoor Practitioner to join our team! We are looking for a versatile, resilient and committed person, who can adapt their practice wherever necessary to support across key stages 1 and 2.
The role of Outdoor Practitioner is to teach and coach our SEN/ ASD students on all outdoor living skills and activities such as horticulture, gardening, growing vegetables and looking after the outdoor environment. The school uses its local setting to deliver Forest School sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand, share and promote the school’s vision, aims and ethos.
- Be responsible for and oversee the day-to-day planning and delivery of Forest school sessions with support from the Assistant Head Teacher.
- Contribute positively to the school by engaging with the wider community.
- Work collaboratively with other staff in the school department and supporting whole school events.
- Promote a culture of inclusion within the school community, place explicit value on diversity in all forms and appreciate all views expressed.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people, complying with the school’s safeguarding policy at all times and adhering to all other policies set out by the school.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is creative and fun.
- Has the ability to build positive relationships and inspire students.
- Has excellent communication, both written and verbal.
- Is appropriately qualified and has a good understanding of the current statutory/regulatory guidelines related to outdoor learning.
- Can be encouraging and adaptable, so all of our students participate with outdoor learning.
- Plan a range of age appropriate outdoor activities including games and crafts.
- Maintain accurate records of planning and progress.
- Can ensure Health & Safety requirements are met.
- Has a positive approach to behaviour support, viewing all behaviours as communication.
- Having experience of THRIVE would be advantageous.

This role is permanent. You will be required to work35 hours per week, 39 weeks per annum.
Actual salary £24,633 - £26,535 p.a.
