What skills and experience we're looking for

You will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • A teaching background and understand the learning required at the various stages of a student’s journey from key stages 1 to 4.
  • Significant and successful experience of working with vulnerable children, groups and families.
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency environment.
  • Experience of contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review to support successful outcomes.
  • An awareness of different learning strategies and teaching methods suitable for teaching a diverse range of abilities.
  • Effective use of ICT and other specialist equipment/ resources.
  • Experience of effective record keeping and writing case reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • A flexible, adaptable approach and an ability to act decisively.


You will be able to:

  • Deliver inspirational teaching, learning and assessment alongside emotional and practical support.
  • Work creatively to engage pupils in face to face, online and home learning opportunities.
  • Follow up absences or lack of engagement with persistence and tenacity.
  • Provide accurate records of the students’ progress.
  • Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in the context of learning.


Ideally you will also have:

Current DSL status with a history/evidence of refresher training being undertaken



You will be able:

  • To plan, prepare deliver and evaluate appropriate plans and learning materials for each student during the agreed length of the individual contract
  • To provide detailed syllabus/course outline information; an initial scheme of work for each course before commencement and update/maintain them as part of the course documentation files
  • To give subject specialist information, advice and support to each student as part of teaching duties
  • To ensure the students complete the agreed work schedules and have regular reviews to provide them with progression information, which can be feedback to the Academies

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled, resilient and caring individual to work across the LwLAT Academies as an academic teacher, helping children who are not accessing school to continue to learn.

Working closely with our Attendance and Welfare team, you will collaborate with parents, Academy colleagues, the community and external agencies so that children continue to learn and successfully reintegrate back into school.

Salary: Point (M1-UPR3)

Hours: as per teacher contract (standard School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions)

Location: Although the Trust Offices will be your base, you will be working with our students and their families within their own homes, in the community or via Teams. Due to the nature of this role, having a full driving licence with access to your own car / transport is essential.

Key Objectives:

At the core of this role, is challenge and support. Your primary focus will be to provide education appropriate to the students’ needs, ability and aptitude. Your secondary focus will be to support an improvement in their knowledge by creating bespoke packages which can be delivered in a timely manner with evidenced outcomes.

You will work with students to:

  • Alleviate social isolation
  • Increase aspirations
  • Identify and overcome barriers to learning
  • Re-engage with school to access the curriculum and achieve

Additional Qualities we are looking for:

  • An ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding the roles and responsibilities of others and your position within these.
  • Be a sympathetic and trusted role model, remaining calm in stressful situations.
