What skills and experience we're looking for

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people both orally and in writing
  • Ability to engage effectively with a range of young people, developing positive and trusting relationships with those who may be deemed as ‘hard to reach’
  • Ability to adapt flexibly to changing demands
  • Ability to plan so as to deploy resources efficiently and effectively
  • Well organised and self-motivated
  • Confident user of ICT in the educational context
  • Good interpersonal skills including ability to work effectively with a range of partners, families and agencies
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Excellent behaviour management skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of the national curriculum across KS3 and 4 and the ability to prepare all pupils for exams from different awarding bodies.

  • Safeguarding and Child Protection frameworks

  • Inclusive approaches to raise attendance, attainment, engagement and achievement

  • Knowledge of approaches to promote positive behaviour for learning

  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice and application of this to a classroom setting

  • Recent experience of successful teaching in subject area

  • Experience of meeting the educational, social and emotional needs of pupils who for a variety of reasons present with challenging behaviour

  • A proven track record of robust and competent record keeping, planning of curriculum content and monitoring and evaluation of outcomes for young people.

  • Successful experience of collaborative and partnership working with school staff and partner agencies

  • Qualified Teacher Status

  • Ability to teach a range of subjects, including English and Maths

  • Evidence of recent and relevant professional development undertaken

  • Full driving licence with Business Insurance Cover

  • Dedication to developing inclusion and raising standards for vulnerable groups
  • Resilient and able to cope with pressure and continuous change
  • Personal integrity, commitment to fairness and an awareness of and commitment to equality of opportunity

The Bridge Short Stay School, is a Pupil Referral Unit, The Bridge caters for young people across Cheshire West and Chester. The majority of our students have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools, others, for a variety of reasons, have found themselves without a school place. All students are offered the support they need within a personalised programme to give them a second opportunity to succeed in education. We change lives by putting our students in a position to make the most of the opportunities that will come their way in life.
The Headteacher and all staff, believe in our young people and regularly go above and beyond in order to support them. Our students may have experienced difficulty in school previously but they have boundless potential and it is a privilege to watch them grow into the young adults they can be. Previous students are graduating from University, successfully completing apprenticeships and contributing to society in meaningful employment.
