Job description

We are seeking to recruit a flexible, enthusiastic and reliable part time evening Assistant Caretaker to start the new term in September. Good communication, interpersonal and DIY skills are essential.

You will be responsible for locking up the school at the end of the day, general maintenance work and repairs, health and safety issues relating to the building, cleaning and porterage duties. It is essential that you are capable of regular stooping, bending, lifting and carrying of equipment, materials and furniture, and able move around our large premises and oversee the cleaners carrying out their duties.

There may occasionally need to be a degree of flexibility around certain key events in the school calendar, e.g. parents evenings, governing body meetings, school fairs etc.

To work in our busy school, you must be positive, hardworking and have a strong commitment to high standards of service delivery and customer care.

West Acton Primary is a vibrant, large 3 form entry school with a specialist provision for ASD pupils which is 2 minutes’ walk from West Acton tube station. Ability to work as part of a team and form good relationships with other colleagues.

Ability to carry out repairs and security duties as identified in job description

Ability to maintain confidentiality over matters relating to the school, pupils, staff or parents.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and to given timescales

To be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Understanding of how health and safety regulations apply to the school

Understanding of Disability Discrimination legislation impacts on the school

Have a DSB check and clearance

Ability to adhere to and implement the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
