What skills and experience we're looking for

Would you like to teach enthusiastic pupils in a supportive and caring small-school environment?

We are seeking ahigh-quality teacher to add to our high-quality team - someone who supports children’s personal development and whose teaching results in good academic progress, whilst modelling our values of aspiration, kindness, cooperation, respect, responsibility and tolerance.

This is a rare opportunity to join our stable and supportive staff. We will value your professionalism and appreciate your dedication to your class.

In the most recent staff survey, 100% of staff agreed that they are proud to be a member of staff at the school and that the school has a culture that encourages calm and orderly conduct and is aspirational for all pupils. Teachers are supported by experienced teaching assistants, an effective pastoral team and a capable admin team.

Initially you will work in a Year 5 class, sharing the role of class teacher with an experienced and dedicated colleague. You will teach two full days and receive generous PPA time on another afternoon to work with your class-share teacher and the teacher from the other Year 5 class. (There may be the opportunity for two further afternoons of teaching, if desired, for a suitable candidate.)

This role may be ideal for someone looking to return to teaching or wanting a new challenge in a new environment.

What the school offers its staff

Our School

We are situated near the Hertfordshire borders on the outskirts of Luton, an area that offers the conveniences of a modern town and the green spaces of the countryside. It is near transport connections by road, rail and air to London, the UK and beyond.

We are a small two-form entry junior school - the smallest in Luton - and so our school has a ‘family feel’ to it. However, we benefit from an expansive site including large playing fields for our children to enjoy. We work in collaboration with our outstanding partner infant school to ensure that children benefit from the Someries experience from Nursery to Year 6. Teachers benefit from training and networking opportunities to meet their professional needs.

The school offers:

  • enthusiastic pupils who love learning
  • an ethos of team working and mutual support
  • supportive parents, carers and governors
  • senior leaders that create a culture where all are valued and can thrive
  • a good record of achievement (in line with national attainment)

As a teacher at our school you will:

  • be given the freedom to focus on what you are in the job for – teach!
  • use your drive, enthusiasm and commitment to enhance our school further
  • use your initiative, be innovative and play your role in a team
  • have a dedicated afternoon each week alongside the other teacher in your year group for planning
  • be friendly, caring and hardworking, modelling our values in all that you do.
