Qualifications

  • Be a graduate with a degree in Economics or related subject
  • Have an appropriate teaching qualification; PGCE or equivalent

Experience and Skills

  • Ability to teach Economics at A Level
  • Up to date subject knowledge
  • Understanding of how students learn and what constitutes effective teaching, learning and assessment
  • Very good organisational ability

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The Economics Department

  • The Economics department offers A-Level Economics and follows the AQA specification. There are currently 7 first-year classes and 7 second-year classes.
  • Examination performance is very strong both in terms of headline results and value added, and the department has a history of some of the highest performance in the College. A Level (2022): 64.4% A*-B, pass rate 100%; (2019) 75.8% A*-B, pass rate 100%. Please see the College website for more information on the results
  • The department is forward thinking and has a well-developed department portal full of resources to support learning. Microsoft Teams is used to communicate with staff and students, and as a powerful teaching tool. The department is keen to encourage the use of e-learning, prepared booklets and extension reading to meet the individual learning needs of students and ensure all are supported and challenged.
  • There is a focus on students working collaboratively in a supportive environment
  • The department currently consists of 4 teaching staff, 4 classrooms, and 1 staff workroom. Staff in the department work closely together with an emphasis on sharing good practice and resources, and regular team meetings, both formal and informal.
  • The department run weekly lunchtime workshops and all members of the team contribute to these
  • The appointment is on a part time basis with a minimum FTE of 0.6 over 3 days. All teachers are expected to act as a personal tutor, to a group of approximately 20 students
  • The College day is 8.45 until 4.15 and each teaching period is 45 minutes long

Godalming College is one of the best performing 16-19 colleges in the country and a great place to work and study.
